The latest news coming in indicates that Ayiko Herbert is the newly elected Gulu University Guild President following a virtual poll that saw him defeat his six other rivals. Ayiko polled 607 votes beating his six competitors miserably.
Ayiko was on Sunday evening declared winner of the virtual poll by the university’s electoral commission through their returning officer, Philip Acidri.
Ayiko’s closest competitor (Awany) polled three hundred ninety-nine (399) votes followed by Alonyo Dolofine who polled only sixty five (65) votes. Yiga John Ivan was the worst performer who registered zero votes during the just concluded online poll.
Ayiko will officially swear in as the university’s students’ leader when the university reopens for all students in March.
The university decided to hold virtual elections following the continued closure of universities in a bid to slow the spread of COVID-19.
