Yesterday, while Makerere university was on the rage again demanding for the release of the students arrested on Thursday, a first year student on the frontline lost her breath and fainted.
Amidst the flying tear gas canisters, almost every demonstrating student was unbothered except for her sister and the journalists who saw her faint through the lens. The journalists offered to give her first aid; sprinkling water on her face and fanning her body with cloths to give her fresh air.
Aaron Mukama, a news reporter with the Serena based NTV felt the first aid wasn’t enough and decided to call off his duty, laying down his camera to lift the student to the NTV car from where she was rushed to hospital. The student later regained consciousness all thanks to Mukama for the quick and heroic response.
While reacting to the situation on NTV’s facebook page, students were so thankful to him, however, disappointed with their fellow student. One furiously commented;
“We told freshers how to prepare for this with jeans not skirts, water bottle not splash, sneakers not high heels. This is Mak not UCU. We hold national issues at heart. Sry my little sis”
This kind of humane act also comes a few days after a Photo of a Kenyan Journalist saving a disabled beggar from a swarm of bees went viral. Reactions over this are that Aaron copied the Kenyan journalist to attract attention.
Mindless of the different opinions about this, he saved a life. Thanks NTV’s Aaron Mukama.
