The Higher Education Students’ Financing Board (HESFB) has announced the beneficiaries of the 2024/25 Students’ Loan Scheme.
Out of 6,661 applicants, only 1,838 students—27.5%—were granted loans due to limited resources.
CPA Michael Wanyama, Executive Director of HESFB, highlighted the board’s ongoing commitment to inclusivity, with 29 Persons with Disabilities among the beneficiaries.
A significant milestone this year was the increase in female beneficiaries, who made up 43% of the total recipients—the highest percentage since the scheme’s inception.
Hon. Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo, Minister of State for Higher Education, emphasized this as a reflection of the government’s dedication to gender equity in education.
Wanyama noted that the program is crucial in helping students transition to higher education, but he also acknowledged the persistent funding limitations that restrict its reach.
Despite these challenges, HESFB remains committed to improving the scheme and advocating for increased funding to support more students in the future.
