On Wednesday 13th November 2019, Mbarara High Court presided over by Justice Joyce Kavuma ruled against the Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) contested vice chancellor Prof. Celestine Obua that he should be sued in his capacity together with the Chancellor Prof. Charles Olwenyi.
Earlier, the lawyers representing the vice chancellor and Chancellor for MUST were against the decision made by Julius Taremwa the secretary general of the association of lectures and staff of MUST (MUSTASA) to sue the duo.
However during her ruling, Justice Kavuma ruled that the aggrieved party as the secretary general of MUSTASA has powers to sue the vice chancellor and chancellor.
Taremwa, the general secretary of MUSTASA took the duo to court challenging the wrong procedures they used to re-appoint VC Prof. Obua for another 5 years.
According to Taremwa’s lawyers, the chancellor of Mbarara University Prof. Charles Olwenyi appointed VC. Prof. Obua without any recommendation or a minute from the University council.
Justice Joyce Kavuma ruled that Prof. Obua and Olwenyi have to stay on the charge sheet and answer the charges brought against them by Julius Taremwa and his team.
