Following the Kyambogo university guild elections that were held on the 7th of march 2018, on 9th march just two days after the elections Democratic Party’s dissatisfied Paul Opesen filed a case against Kyambogo’s Electoral Commission and elections petition tribunal at Nakawa court contesting and challenging the whole electoral process.
Last week the 3rd of May 2018 the high court of Uganda received the petition of PAUL OPESEN VERSUS KYU GUILD ELECTORAL COMMISION, in the notice of motion court moved to hear the case on the 20th of June 2018.
According to the notice of motion, the counsel for the applicant Paul Opesen shall be heard to move orders including an order for certiorari to call for and quash the decision of the Kyambogo elections petition tribunal in respect of the guild elections held on 7th march 2018 among others.
This website contacted the applicant and complainant Paul Opesen who confirmed that the court has received the petition and issued an order inviting KYU guild electoral commission to court on the stated date.
About the elections
On the 7th of March 2018, the KYU guild electoral commission announced Forum for Democratic Change’s (FDC) Amanya German as the winner of the 15th Kyambogo guild presidential race after polling 3701 votes followed by the now dissatisfied applicant Paul Opesen who polled 2137 in a race that attracted 9 contenders.
