The High Court in Kampala has given Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) 15 days to file its defence in a case filed by Kitagwenda County MP-elect Robert Mugabe challenging the cancellation of his Mature Entry Certificate.
The directive follows a petition by Mugabe contesting the university’s decision to nullify his certificate last month. IUIU had cancelled the document, citing alleged falsification of academic documents used to apply for the aptitude test under the Mature Entry Scheme.
Mugabe has since moved to the High Court, arguing that the university’s decision was unlawful and violated due process. He is seeking court intervention to overturn the cancellation.
The case now shifts to IUIU, which must file its formal response within the stipulated 15 days as ordered by the court.
The outcome of the case could have significant implications, particularly regarding eligibility requirements and verification processes for academic credentials under Uganda’s Mature Entry Scheme.
Court proceedings are expected to resume after the university files its defence.
