On Monday this week, UCU was blessed to have their health awareness week up and running in full swing. To the wannabe ‘Holy’ students of the Mukono based university, they saw a ripe opportunity to clear their doubts and also benefit as much as possible from the health week.
The health awareness week that is taking place at the pitch below the administration block has seen quite a remarkable turn up of students who are partaking of the activities and services being offered at the tents.
Majority students visiting the medical personnel are requesting to take HIV tests, counseling and guidance sessions and most shockingly some are taking pregnancy tests.
“Students who have made their way to the grounds are mostly interested in knowing their HIV statuses, counseling, and guidance and we have also registered a number of students seeking to get pregnancy tests,” a medical assistant told this website.
In a twist of events, some students mostly girls have also on several occasions stormed the health points and bargained for boxes of condoms. It’s not clear what they intend to use them for but the jovial mood that was seen at the grounds was overwhelming.
The health awareness week is running Monday to Sunday and has attracted a number of medical personnel at campus who are offering free services to the students which include free counseling, HIV testing plus other health related issues. There will be a door to door sensitization in most hostels and halls of residence too.
