H.E German Amanya on a phone call today morning told campus bee that according to his close discussion with KCCA representatives and Lord councilors for kyambogo institutions i.e Hon. Olive K. Namazzi and Hon. Bruhan Byaruhanga who doubles as the Chairperson Students Welfare Committee, property tax had been maintained for financial year 2018/19. Therefore there is no biggest reason for increasing the hostel fees unless landlords give justifiable reasons for the increase.
He went on to say it’s a win win situation because these are privately owned entities and therefore can on the other side decide to hike to whatever amount they want since they are owners and their location aids better accessibility. It is so clear that most of the hostels at Kyambogo Univesity have increased the fee with no clear reasons. “We have increased the hostel fee to provide better services to our clients. Double rooms have been increased to 700,000/= and single rooms to 1.3 Million shillings.” said Taata Alex custodian Carlton Hostel.
German said that there will be a meeting with hostel owners soon before the month ends and university is to have a memorandum of understanding with those that qualify and they should all have records of students. “We will keep you posted about the outcome of the round table harmonization meeting that we are yet to have with the local councils, security officers and hostel owners with the Deans Office Students Department.” German concluded
