Scheduled to finish his campaign trail at the university where he earned his law degree, the Go Forward presidential candidate, John Patrick Amama Mbabazi, kept his Makerere supporters waiting as early as 4pm. He was scheduled to be within Makerere by 5pm. Prior to his arrival, various local artists turned up and kept the crowd on their feet. They included Minayo, Gift Of Khado, and Kiweewa Gerald; a rather popular kadongokamu singer. Upon performing, a pack of university students thronged him demanding he shares with them the “Loot.” He gave in to their demands, dropping a few monies inside their box. The same bunch of visibly intoxicated bunch of students raided the stage grabbed’ a mic off a singer and made their demands known.
They had with them, a small culture box, where they stated Amama was required to place sh500,000. They sung the rather vulgar Lumumba hall anthem before abandoning the stage.
A crowd consisting of a handful of students and neighbourhood residents patiently waited. At about 7;30pm after an announcement was made about his eminent delay, the visibly impatient crowd drastically reduced. There was no denying this was an epic flop!
Fifteen minutes later Kimbugwe Salome, the national campaign manager took to the stage and made an announcement to the miniature crowd. “Amama Mbabazi won’t be able to address you this evening, campaign rules that debar political rules past 6pm bind all. We do apologise.”
Her apologetic tone was received with jeers and abuses hurled against her, anti- Amama Mbabazi chants filled the night sky.
