Shock and grief have engulfed Kampala International University (KIU) Western Campus in Bushenyi following the sudden death of Edson Alinda, a postgraduate student who collapsed while revising for his exams on Saturday afternoon.
Alinda, a native of Kagote, was pursuing a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and Management. According to witnesses, he was revising in one of the lecture rooms ahead of a 2:00 p.m. exam when he suddenly collapsed without warning.
He was immediately rushed to KIU Teaching Hospital, where medical personnel made efforts to resuscitate him, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
A university official described the incident as deeply heartbreaking, saying Alinda was known for his discipline and dedication to his studies.
“He was hardworking, calm, and very focused. His passing has deeply shaken both students and lecturers,” the official said.
Colleagues at Mpanga Secondary School, where Alinda previously taught, described him as a passionate educator who inspired his students through both his intellect and humility.
“He always encouraged us to aim higher. His love for education was unmatched,” a colleague shared in tribute.
Students and lecturers at KIU Western Campus were left in visible shock after news of his passing spread through the campus community.
“We were supposed to sit the paper together. It’s hard to believe he’s gone,” said one classmate.
The KIU administration has extended condolences to Alinda’s family and confirmed that arrangements are underway to support them during this difficult time.
Messages of sympathy and remembrance have poured in on social media from friends, former students, and educators, many describing Alinda as a rising academic with a bright future.
“A disciplined teacher, a mentor, and a friend — gone too soon,” one post read.
Funeral details are expected to be communicated by the family in the coming days.
His death has left both the KIU and Kagote communities mourning the loss of a promising young educator whose life and career were cut short just as he was preparing for his next academic milestone.
May his soul rest in peace.
