Vacists have been handed a golden chance to make their holidays count — by learning practical tech skills straight from the experts at Makerere University.
The university’s College of Computing and Information Sciences (CoCIS) has announced a new ICT Bootcamp aimed at P.7, S.4, and S.6 leavers, along with other students and professionals eager to sharpen their tech know-how.
The program, run through the Center for Innovations and Professional Skills Development (CiPSD), promises “practicals only” — no theory, just pure hands-on training in some of today’s most in-demand digital skills.
Study While You Wait
For P.7 and S.4 leavers, training kicks off on November 11, 2025, while S.6 leavers and others begin on December 8, 2025 — perfectly timed to fit the long holiday stretch.
“This is not just another holiday camp,” said a CoCIS coordinator. “It’s a springboard into real-world digital careers. We want young people to learn skills that can actually earn them income or prepare them for tech degrees.”
Courses on Offer
The lineup reads like a digital buffet — from computer repair to coding, design to mobile apps. Each course ends with a Makerere University certificate, a boost for any young CV.

Real Skills, Real Results
Makerere officials say the bootcamp was designed to close the widening gap between academic theory and workplace reality. Uganda’s ICT sector is growing fast — but the shortage of skilled tech talent remains a major hurdle.
“This is the bridge,” the CiPSD team said. “Students don’t just learn how technology works; they use it, fix it, and create with it.”
