K’ogikwatako campaign which was previously launched by Democratic Party (DP) in a bid to stop the government from amending the constitution article 102 (b) has now spread all over Makerere University. Makerere’s young democrats chapter (UYD) kicked off their campaign last week at the Mitchellex Bazaar where they had a special tent.
According to Stephen Nuwagira, the chairman of this campaign, the Kogikwatako campaign is meant to sensitize students, lecturers, and other citizens in the University that this matter is of national interest and everyone should have a contribution towards it.
“They say we are leaders of tomorrow but that isn’t guaranteed if one person is to rule for life” Nuwagira revealed. Apparently, the chapter is also planning a massive peaceful march to the constitutional square as the launch for sensitization amongst students national wide heats up.
Nuwagira also revealed that countless numbers of students have already registered to be part of the campaign to make sure that ‘Mr. Museveni’ does not play with article 102 (b). “Mr. Museveni has contributed what he can towards nation-building, it is time he moves on. Even the best dancer leaves the stage,” Nuwagira exclaimed.
Some of the components on UYD’s printed agenda include, the presidency is not a career, fresh air, among others which gives the ruling government no option of lifting the age limit.
