Deputy Lord Mayor – Doreen Nyanjura who doubles as Makerere University LCV Woman Councillor has refuted claims that suggest she is a lesbian.
In a tweet that raised eyebrows yesterday, Nyanjura cleared the air on a misconception about feminists who are usually tagged to being gay and something of that sort.
She admitted that she has many male friends, a thing that puts a section of the public in question as to why she hasn’t officially disclosed her man.
“Roughly 98% of my friends are males, I have very few female friends, I hardly spend time with females. I have however on some occasions been called a lesbian because according to some ignorant Ugandans, Cindy inclusive, Feminists are lesbians!” She wrote.
“As for me, I don’t care what some of you call me, I have been called worse. I am immune to abuses, but one thing won’t change, I am a gender scholar, gender activist and a FEMINIST.”
Top of the tweet, was her open declaration of support of Sheebah Karungi, a renowned singer and songwriter who is amidst social media criticism over her battle against fellow artiste Cindy Sanyu.
Last year, social media was covered by rumours that indicated Nyanjura’s purported relationship with David Kabanda, an NRM politician, after the two were reportedly worryingly close.
The now, concurrently, Deputy Lord Mayor Nyanjura has come out clear.
