In a series of tweets, former Makerere University Vice Guild President Judith Nalukwago announced that she will be running for the position of Guild President this year under the People Power/NUP movement.
Nalukwago, who is a “close friend” to Julius Katerega, the outgoing Guild President also disclosed what pushed her to run for the top student leadership position at the hill. She has also served as a representative on the Guild Council for the School of Health Sciences where she studies from.
According to Nalukwago, she was raised from a humble background in a small village called Mpugwe in Masaka District. While growing up, she endured long distances in her early education with the main goal of going to Makerere University for her higher education.
Nalukwago intends to use education as a tool to fight poverty, ignorance and injustice if voted Guild President for Makerere University.
“I have found one thing to be true, that all education is meant to address the biggest challenges of humanity them being Ignorance, Poverty & Disease.” she tweeted.
“The Vice Guild presidency presented to me an opportunity to assert those beliefs and push more for affordable education, education reforms and address systemic injustice against students in general and women in particular. This struggle is always a work in progress.” Another tweet reads.
Nalukwago’s undying desire to lead Makerere has always kept her moving and she has further vowed to release a detailed plan that will work for all Makerere students.
“The task before us is an uphill one, but the power of our resolve will be the steam that gets our train moving. In the coming days, I will share broadly about this noble aspiration and what I have in plan for us all.” she said in another tweet.
