Makerere university’s 87th guild president Shamim Nambassa has disclosed to public as regards the source of her campaign funding, revealing that she borrowed over 18 million Uganda shillings to facilitate her guild campaigns.
While appearing on NTV’s Mwasuze Mutya, Makerere University’s 5th female guild president said she had to get a huge debt to facilitate her campaigns and by the end of the campaigns, she had accumulated a debt burden of over 18 million Uganda shillings.
“I was the only girl in the primaries during the campaigns, I had a debt of 18 million because most of the money was borrowed in my name,” Nambassa said.
NUP’s flag bearer in the 87th guild election did invest large chunks of money in the campaigns with some anticipating that she got facilitation from the party. The whereabouts of the source of the funds remained unknown till when she (Nambassa) finally broke the silence, revealing that the funds had been borrowed.
Nambassa further revealed that her dream of becoming a lawyer and chief judge was destroyed because she couldn’t fend the school fees cost at Nabisunsa girls school. Despite that, she says she was given an opportunity to study minus paying tuition and looks forward to changing people’s lives.
Nambassa recently started a campaign to end teenage pregnancies and give hope to teenage mothers through inspiration and mentorship on sexual reproduction health. One can say that this is indeed a good start to change people’s lives just as Nambassa wishes to.
