While appearing before the high court today, the sacked Makerere University Researcher Dr Stella Nyanzi has told Justice Lydia Mugambe that she recently suffered a miscarriage while being detained at Luzira Prison.

The flamboyant former Makerere researcher was speaking today during a case hearing that she filed against Makerere University for refusal to reinstate her.  Nyanzi who appeared in court with a shaved head added that she suffers from hypertension.

She further revealed that she has been admitted to the Luzira prison’s sickbay, which has made it impossible for her to get in touch with her lawyer Isaac Ssemakadde to swear a supporting affidavit in the case.

Following her lawyer’s request to the judge that the case be adjourned to February 19th, Nyanzi has been sent back to Luzira until the requested hearing date. She has been on remand at Luzira prison since November 2018 after being charged with cyber harassment and offensive communication.

Despite the fact that the university appeal tribunal ruled that she should get back her job including payment of her salary arrears, Nyanzi was sacked together with 44 other staff members. The university Vice Chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe recently revealed that Nyanzi deliberately declined to renew her contract which expired in 2016.
