Narunkuma Angela is known by many as a tough but also tender and kind lady who ensures that parts of the University are kept clean and glossy. She narrated her ordeal to Untold Stories Uganda a facebook page that publishes the untold stories of Ugandans;
“My first child graduated last week. I took a break from keeping residential hall corridors clean and went out seeking a decent tailor. He expected me looking my very best for his day. Hearing my son’s name get called out for the award of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science is the best recollection I have of a place I’ve diligently served for the last 31 years,” Narunkuma narrated.

“I got this job in 1986. I was a timid 17-year-old girl who had abandoned her first job. I failed to live up to the demands and expectations of my employer. After six months, I quit. I couldn’t cope with being a maid. I joined Makerere University together with my sister in 1986. Our duty has always been to keep the University clean.”
“I painstakingly paid my son’s tuition through loans the University was kind enough to avail me. I’m in doubt if he appreciates how deeply I’m proud of him. I’ve always made him believe he’s our hope for a better life.”
Narunkuma, may your son indeed be the key to a better life for you, and congratulations to him.
