In the morning hours of Wednesday 30th October 2019, Katerega Julius, the Makerere University Guild President was ‘kidnapped’ shortly after attending a morning show at NBS TV. From then, he was no where to be seen until the beginning of this week on 4th November 2019, when he surfaced again at his territory (Makerere University).
Visibly in pain and speaking in a low voice, Kateregga said that he doesn’t recall exactly what happened to him.
“After an interview I had with NBS TV, I was dropped off by my colleague in Kikoni. From there I got a boda boda to the university main gate, only to find out that there was heavy deployment of police personnel at the entrance. I decided to use another small path into the university and within there that’s where I was captured and I stopped knowing what was taking place.” Kateregga narrated.
“When I woke up on the day which I don’t know, I was in between two tough men who questioned me as to why I was leading the demonstration and mobilizing students against the position of the ministry of education and that they don’t want to see me at Makerere again!”
“However I don’t know whether I was beaten or not because I didn’t know what was taking place. When I went to hospital after being released, the doctors tested my blood samples and it was discovered that there was chloroform in my blood.” Kateregga concluded.
