The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) has launched its seventh annual Student Scholarship Programme (SSP), while simultaneously announcing the selection of ten exceptional graduates for its 2024 cohort.
The 2025 scholarship programme, which covers all costs including registration, annual fees, examinations, and study materials, is now accepting applications until April 30, 2025.
The initiative targets recent graduates from Ugandan public and private chartered universities who completed their studies in 2024. To qualify, applicants must have achieved either a first-class or upper second-class honors degree, regardless of their field of study.
“The scholarship programme represents our commitment to developing the next generation of accounting professionals in Uganda,” said an ICPAU representative. “We’re particularly proud that the programme is open to graduates from all academic backgrounds, fostering diversity in the accounting profession.”
For the 2024 cohort, ten scholars were selected from a competitive pool of 359 applicants across 27 universities. The successful candidates represent a diverse range of academic backgrounds, from traditional accounting and commerce degrees to engineering and oil and gas production.
Notable institutions represented include Makerere University, Kyambogo University, Gulu University, and Mbarara University of Science and Technology.
Among the selected scholars, seven are women, highlighting the programme’s success in promoting gender diversity in the accounting profession. The new cohort will begin their CPA examinations in May 2025 and are expected to complete their professional qualification within two and a half years.
The students are scheduled to write their first examinations in May 2025, and they are required to complete the course within two and a half years.
Launched in 2019 as part of ICPAU’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, the scholarship programme has supported 60 aspiring accountants to date.
