Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU), through the Public Accountants Examinations Board (PAEB, has released examination results for the May 2023 seating.
The results were released by CPA Laura Orobia, vice chairperson PAEB on Monday June 26th at Skyz hotel, Naguru on behalf of board’s chair CPA Geoffrey Byamugisha.
The released results are the first set of exam results from the new syllabus that was launched in January 2023 and first out of the three examinations for the 2023 calendar.
A total of 6,655 candidates sat for the May 2023 examinations compared to 5279 that sat for the previous examinations in December 2022.
According to CPA Byamugisha, some students got low grades because they don’t attend webinars organised for them and do not look at the learning outcomes.
He also revealed that examiners have noted that most students spot instead of reading all sections.
ICPAU launched a revised syllabus in January and this has also been attributed to the low pass rate in some subjects. CPA Byamugisha says some students have not yet appreciated the information in the new syllabuses.
“The low pass rates in some subjects seems to have a link with the fact that students have not yet appreciated information in the revised syllabuses,” he said in his remarks read by CPA Orobia.
ICPAU will hold two more sets of examinations this year in August and November. The new syllabus will run for the next five consecutive years.
