Makerere Journalism and Communication fraternity is still reeling in shock after the sudden death of their student, classmate and friend, Charity Komuhangi, just months to their graduation. This is what Davidson Ndyabahika, former Makerere Students’ Guild Information Minister and classmate of the deceased had to say about the fallen student on his Facebook post;
A BRIEF ABOUT OUR FALLEN COMRADE, CHARITY KOMUHANGI (R.I.P)
Good morning comrades. As you may now be aware, Komuhangi Charity has departed from us.
Like the rest of us (4th year students), she was barely months away from the award of a degree of Bachelors of Journalism and Communication at Makerere University, after a grueling 4 years. On Saturday 11th June 2016, Charity was involved in a fatal accident, when the boda boda on which she was riding on for her afternoon prayers was involved in a collision with a speeding car at Lungujja/Kosovo. She broke all her limbs except one, and sustained injuries to her ribs and a mild swelling on her brain.
She was rushed to Lubaga Hospital where she received first Aid and initial medication. With her condition worsening, she was transferred to Case Clinic in Nakasero, where she has been in a comma under the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), till she breathed her last yesterday afternoon.
On Monday 13th, Doctors realized Charity had lost a lot of blood, and that a blood transfusion was necessary to enable the necessary surgical operation on her damaged body organs to take place. As such, a blood donation drive was started in earnest by friends and other good Samaritans, raising a whopping 50 units of blood by the end of the next day, 40 units more than Charity needed for her operation.
Unfortunately, neither the transfusion nor the surgery was to take place. She was still in a comma when she breathed her last.
As the Department and the students’ fraternity of Makerere University, while we’re greatly saddened by her loss, we thank God that he gave us the opportunity to know and relate with such a kind and affectionate soul as her.
BURIAL ARRANGEMENTS
Burial is Friday in Rukungiri. We are liaising with the department, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS) and the entire university to secure a bus to transport Charity’s friends and classmates for her final send off. Burial shall take place at her ancestral home in Kitimba Village just near Katobo Trading Center, Nyakagyeme Sub County, Rujumbura County in Rukungiri District.
May the soul of our sister Rest Eternally.
On another sad note, we are saddened that Kavuma Rodgers (the Boda rider) also passed on soon after Charity parted ways with us. May their souls peacefully rest.
