With support from the Government of Uganda through the Research and Innovation Fund, a team of researchers at Makerere School of Public Health have mentored a team of undergraduate students coming from different universities in Uganda to come up with the Vitex Medical Pandemic Assistance Tool.
Under the mentorship of the faculty’s Dr. Justine N. Bukenya and Christine Muhumuza and Prof. Faith-Michael Uzoka-Mount Royal University, Calgary and Chinyere Nwafor-Okoli-Canadian Institute for Innovation and Development, the students have innovated the next generation Smart Intelligent Medical Device.
The innovation is aimed at reducing infections (especially COVID19) and other hospital acquired infections as well as enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of hospitals in meeting the basic clinical needs of in-ward patients especially during highly contagious outbreaks.
The young innovators are Gift Mugisha from Swinburne University of technology, Samantha Ainembabazi from Uganda Christian University, Melody M. Arindagye from Mbarara University, Sylvia Immanirakiza from Makerere University, Arnold Kiirya from Kyambogo University and Joletta Nabunje also from Makerere University.
