A group of intern doctors from Mulago hospital have called on parliament’s intervention to address their plight. The Interns laid down their tools protesting nonpayment of their allowances for over 4 months.
The group presented a petition to the speaker’s office and the health committee calling for legislators to push for the payment of their allowances.
However responding to the groups concerns the health committee chairperson Dr Medard Bitekyerezo said the committee was equally concerned about their situation and was taking steps to push for a solution.
Dr Medard Bityekerezo said the committee was doing everything possible to have money allocated in the health budget to pay their allowances.
He continues to say that the strike would have dire consequences and could lead to death of many patients; hence the need to reconsider getting back to work as parliament handles the matter.
The health committee of parliament has asked striking Intern doctors to reconsider their action.
This was during a meeting held with a group of intern doctors who had come to parliament seeking its intervention in their issues.
