ISBAT Graduate Martha Ahumuza Laid to Rest Amid Calls for Respect and Dignity

The late Martha Ahumuza Murari, a 23-year-old ISBAT University graduate, was laid to rest at her ancestral home in Mbarara district on Sunday. The somber ceremony was attended by family, friends, and mourners who gathered to bid her a final farewell after her untimely and mysterious death at Mezo Noir, a popular Kampala nightclub, last Wednesday.

Amidst the grief, Martha’s father, Seth Murari, delivered a heartfelt and impassioned speech, condemning the spread of misinformation and online speculation surrounding his daughter’s passing. He expressed deep disappointment over how some individuals on social media had chosen to mock the grieving family instead of offering condolences.

“I have lost my daughter today, but tomorrow they will lose theirs. No one creates life except God, and no one takes life except God. If you cannot have humanity at such a moment, when will you have it?” Murari stated, urging the public to show compassion rather than fueling baseless rumors.

Murari called upon social media users and media outlets to respect the family’s mourning period and allow law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances of Martha’s death. He emphasized that reckless speculation and politically motivated narratives could disrupt ongoing inquiries.

“There is a time for politics, but this is not it. Let us grieve and put our child to rest before engaging in any discussions. Posting unverified information online only disorganizes investigations and adds unnecessary pain to an already grieving family,” he said.

Murari also reminded the public that Uganda’s Computer Misuse Act penalizes individuals who engage in cyber harassment, warning that those spreading false and defamatory statements about Martha’s death could face legal consequences.

As mourners gathered to pay their last respects, the family reiterated that they are awaiting an official police report to determine the cause of Martha’s passing. So far, authorities have not made any public statements regarding the investigation.

Despite the pain and controversy surrounding her death, Martha was remembered as a bright, ambitious, and kind-hearted individual who had recently graduated from ISBAT University. Her friends described her as someone who had a promising future ahead and left a lasting impact on those around her.

As the family mourns their loss, they continue to call for dignity, respect, and patience as investigations proceed.
