The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) has announced dates for school reopening for second semester of 2020/2021 academic year. According to the Academic Registrar of the University, Dr Halima Wakabi Akbar , the second semester will commence on 5th July, 2021 and classes will be conducted virtually in the wake of new wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr Akbar says the online classes will start after sensitization campaign to the lecturers and students on the approach.
“From Monday 28th June – Sunday 4th July, 2021, students and staff re-training and re-sensitization on OdeL and ERP. Lectures and normal registration will begin on Monday, 5th July, 2021 and normal registration will end on Sunday, 8th August, 2021,” Dr Akbar says.
According to the IUIU Academic Registrar, late registration begins on Monday, 9th August,2021 and will end on Sunday, 16th August,2021. The university says the examinations for the second semester will start on Monday, 4th October, 2021 to Sunday, 17th October ,2021.
Dr Akbar says the school reopening dates are subject to change and she urges students to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to safeguard themselves from the pandemic.
“Kindly, note that this is subject to the next Presidential directive on the lockdown , after which any new developments will be communicated to the students,””Keep safe. Get immunized , wash hands, keep on your masks , keep physical distance and pray to The Almighty Allah for protection,” she says.
Commenting on the reopening dates, the Guild President of Islamic University in Uganda Welunga Yusuf has asked students to attend the sensitization virtual meetings to be drilled on E-Learning.
“The Students should utilize the sensitization meetings for their benefit. The students must prepare their questions to he presented to administrators over online learning. Therefore, I am requesting every student to attend a webinar,” Welunga says.
Recently, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni closed schools as one way for curbing the new wave of COVID-19 pandemic in Uganda. Since its onset in 2019, COVID-19 pandemic has killed over 500 people in the country and over 3 Million people worldwide.
