The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) at the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) has recognized the top-performing students for the 2020-2021 academic year.
The faculty at the university recognized the 50 students who qualified for the Dean’s (Second Class Upper ) and Rector’s (First Class) lists.
Speaking during the certificate award ceremony yesterday at IUIU Main Campus in Mbale, the Dean of FASS Mr. Ssekanyo Isa urged the outstanding students to work hard and ensure that they maintain their grades and skills.
“I urge you to continue working hard to maintain your CGPA. I need the students who are on the Dean’s list to move to the Rector’s list,” Mr. Isa said.
The Dean FASS challenged the students to use their education acquired at IUIU to change their respective communities.
Seconding Mr. Isa, the Academic Registrar of the Islamic University in Uganda Dr. Halima Wakabi Akbar who was the Chief Guest congratulated the students for the recognition. Dr. Akbar urged the students to marry their academic excellence with good character.
“Your outstanding papers will take you at a certain point but it is your character that will take you further. Please, combine your character and academic excellence,” Dr. Akbar said.
The event which was one of its kind at IUIU was aimed at motivating students to keep working hard in their studies. The recognized students are pursuing Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication, Bachelor of Arts in Economics, Bachelor of Social Work and Social Administration, Bachelor of Development Studies, and Bachelor of Social Science among others.
