The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) commits to work hand in hand with the Government of Uganda and other stakeholders in conserving the environment.
The remarks were made yesterday by the Assistant University Farm Manager Mr. Kabuuye Jafari Matungo during a tree planting exercise organised by UMOJA Conservation Trust at IUIU farm in Jami Village, Budakka district.
Mr. Kabuuye said IUIU values environmental conservation activities such as planting trees to minimize the impact of climate change among others.
In her remarks, Mbabazi Joanita who is the Communications Manager at Mount Elgon Tree Growing Enterprise said it is a role of every Ugandan to conserve the environment.
Joanita said their organisation partnered with UMOJA Conservation Trust to plant over a lot of trees in two districts in the Elgon Region namely Mbale and Budakka.
Speaking on behalf of IUIU students, the Vice Guild President Abdukadir Yusuf said they took part in the exercise for a greener Uganda.
The organisation planted over 100 indigenous trees commonly known as Musizi. The exercise was part of Elgon Region Conservation week that UMOJA Conservation Trust has embarked on to make the Elgon Region green.
Partners of UMOJA Conservation Trust in the initiative are IUIU, Riham, National Forest Authority, Qibla Events, Mt. Elgon Tree Growing Enterprise Ltd, Uganda Wild Authority, Kenya Central Bank, Mbale City Council, IUIU FM, Uganda Police and many schools.
