The Rector of Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) Professor Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda says the institution is ready to collaborate with Muslims of South Sudan in the education sector.
Professor Gyagenda made the remarks on Sunday, 4th April, 2021 during a high profile meeting with the Mufti of South Sudan Sheikh Abdullah Baraj who visited IUIU Main Campus in Mbale City.
Professor Gyagenda says the Islamic University in Uganda is ready to support Muslims in South Sudan by providing them with quality education.
“We shall sit with their office to see what IUIU can do for Muslims of South Sudan especially in matters of education by sharing curriculum which we have been using for the last 15 years. We can also train their teachers for secondary school education. We can also train their teachers of theological schools using our curriculum,” IUIU Rector says.
Professor Gyagenda says the institution is planning to visit South Sudan’s Capital, Juba to actualize the cordial relationship.
“We shall be travelling to Juba after the holy month of Ramadhan to start these kind of cooperation through signing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and coming up with action plan on how to carry out these activities,” he says.
According to Professor Gyagenda, the relationship will enable IUIU to share skills to Muslims in South Sudan.
”It is good for us to share what we have with our Muslim brothers and sisters in South Sudan because that is the meaning of Islamic unity and Islamic cooperation,” he says.
Speaking in an interview, Mufti of South Sudan Sheikh Abdullah Baraj said they need IUIU to help them establish Islamic University in South Sudan and get scholarships for their teachers to study at the Islamic University in Uganda.
