The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) says the administration of the institution is ready to work with the newly sworn in Guild Officials for the betterment of the students.
The remarks made by IUIU Vice Rector (Academic Affairs) Professor Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda who represented the Rector Dr Ahmad Kawesa Sengendo during the swearing in and handover ceremony on Wednesday in Mbale municipality.
Professor Gyagenda said the new students’ leaders are supposed to work hand in hand with the administration to continue raising the flag of the university.
“We will work with you for the betterment of the university. You (students) are important to us because without you we would have not been here,” he says.
“It is obvious that sometimes we face challenges such as scarcity of water. We need to work together to find practical solutions to such problems,” Gyagenda says.
The Vice Rector says the new students leaders should strike a balance between their roles and academics.
“You must balance your activities as leaders with your responsibility as students. Don’t forget that the reason you are here for is studies. Mind your studies. You can’t spend 16 hours on IUSU activities and only 5 hours on your studies . You need to balance,” he says.
Professor Gyagenda commends the students of IUIU for their behaviour at the campus and after graduating.
“We are proud of you because of the way you behave. 98 percent of you are good students. Wherever you are, the employers are telling us that IUIU graduates are the best because of their skills, discipline and character,” he says.
In his acceptance speech, Guild President Yusuf Welunga, a second year Bachelor of Laws (LLB) student says he is committed to serve the students irrespective of their nationality, tribe and race.
He says his Government has officials that will make sure that students affairs are handled diligently in collaboration with the IUIU administration.
