The Guild President of the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) Kakande Hafdwar, has asked the Government to always involve youth when drafting and implementing policies aimed at conserving water and environment.
Kakande made the remarks during the Eastern Region Youth Debate Competition 2022 for universities organized by Youth Go-Green funded by Ministry of Water and Environment under the theme “Water Conservation: A Necessity of the Present to Secure the Future.”
According to Kakande, the youth are the implementers of the environmental policies hence the need for them to be involved at all levels.
“The young people are the basis in any planning. The young people must be involved because the youth will correct mistakes made by young people to conserve water and environment. The young people must be prioritized when drafting and implementing the environmental protection policies,” he said.
In his remarks, Maximo Twinomuhangi who is the team leader of Kyoga Water Management Zone said Government through the Ministry of Water and Environment has put in place ways to ensure sustainability of water and environment.
Twinomuhangi who is the guest of honor and represented permanent secretary in the Ministry of Water and Environment said youth are indeed key players in conserving water and environment.
The regional youth debate competition has brought together students from the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) Main Campus, Uganda Christian University (UCU ) Mbale Campus, Busitema University, Kumi University, Makerere University Jinja Campus and National Teachers College Kaliro as part of Uganda Water and Environmental Week.
