The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) says it is on the verge of introducing a Faculty of Engineering at its Main Campus in Mbale City.
This was disclosed by the Rector of the university, Professor Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda during a Ramadhan 2022/1443 Iftar Dinner he (Rector) organized at the university’s Main Campus in Mbale City.
Speaking during the function, Professor Gyagenda said the University has already identified a company to design the Engineering Faculty.
According to the Rector, this new Faculty will help the university to competently serve as Organisation of Islamic Organisation’ s (OIC’s) Centre of Science, Technology and Innovation in Africa.
“Recently, IUIU was named to be the centre of OIC’s Science , Technology and Innovation in Africa. So, the new Faculty of Engineering will help the university serve in this role competently. The Faculty will be producing competent engineers for the country, the region and the continent,” he said.
Speaking at the same function, the Eastern Muslim Regional Kadhi, Sheikh Ahmad Haamid Wandega commended IUIU for contributing tremendously to the social-economic growth of Eastern Uganda, Uganda, Africa and the entire World.
“IUIU is contributing a lot to this region, Eastern Uganda. Not just Eastern Region but also Uganda, Africa and the entire World. The competent graduates that IUIU produce are contributing a lot in our communities,” the Regional Kadhi said.
The Ramadan Iftar Dinner brought together Muslim Leaders, Government Officials, Medical Practitioners, Cultural Leaders, IUIU Staff and Students among others.
Some of the notable people that attended the event include IUIU Vice Rector (Finance and Administration) Professor Abdul Kaziba Mpaata, IUIU Vice Rector (Academic Affairs) Dr Jamil Serwanga, IUIU Academic Registrar Dr Halima Wakabi Akbar, Resident City Commissioner Mbale who is also IUIU student Ahamada Washaki and Elder of Bamasaba John Amram Wagyabyalire.
