Museene Mary Gorretti, a midwifery student at the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) School of Nursing and Midwifery wins a Silver Medal (Midwifery Category) during Eastern Region Nursing Skills Competition held from 2nd to 3rd November 2021 at IUIU Main Campus in Mbale City.
Gorretti and three other nursing and midwifery students who have also won will represent Eastern Uganda at the national level in December 2021.
Dr. Emmanuel Tuganaiyo who is a Consultant Surgeon and Director of Mbale Referral Hospital was the Chief Guest at the medal presentation ceremony today in Summayyah Hall. Dr. Tugainayo urged the nursing and midwifery students from over four schools in Eastern Uganda to always marry skills and ethics. He said skills without ethics are dead skills.
The Vice-Rector (Academic Affairs) of IUIU Dr. Jamil Serwanga said the university will continue nurturing competent health professionals to serve people professionally. Dr. Serwanga commended World Skills Uganda for choosing IUIU School of Nursing and Midwifery to host the event among all nursing and midwifery schools in Eastern Uganda.
In her remarks, IUIU School of Nursing and Midwifery Principal Dr. Hajat Namutebi Sarah said the competition allowed the students to showcase their skills. She said students from different schools were able to share skills that are important in both nursing and midwifery areas.
Other schools that took part in a two-day competition include Mount Elgon School of Nursing and Midwifery, Soroti School of Registered Comprehensive Nursing, Jinja School of Nursing and Midwifery, and Saint Joseph’s Kamuli School of Nursing and Midwifery.
