The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) has condemned plans from some students who wanted to burn its Main campus in Mbale Municipility.
Two month ago, some students dropped a letter at IUIU – Main campus informing the administration about their plans to burn the institution over unknown reasons.
But while addressing the Course Coordinators last night , IUIU Assistant Registrar Mr Ssemakula said the students who wanted to burn the institution are unreasonable.
“Burning the university is a myopic thinking. Today , you are here as a student and you need to burn the University. Tomorrow, you shall be here as an administrator. How shall you feel working at the same university you once wanted to burn? That kind of thinking is not good,” he said.
The Assistant Registrar says the students are supposed to think of their life after leaving IUIU.
“You may think we don’t know you but think of life after graduating. We can’t give a recommendation letter to a student who once wanted to burn University. Have good character to benefit from the University. The administration can’t give a scholarship to a student who once wanted to burn the institution. Burning IUIU is not an option,” he added.
On academic excellence, Ssemakula urged Course Coordinators to make sure Lecturers are discharging their duties diligently.
He says the students’ leaders should never sign an attendance sheet when the Lecturer didn’t show up.
“Don’t sign an attendance sheet when the Lecturer didn’t teach you. I am paid to ensure that you are learning and how can I know that you are not learning if you are signing the attendance sheet when the Lecturers didn’t teach you? It is your role to inform the administration,” he said.
Course Coordinators are students in all IUIU campuses that bridge the gap between the students and the administration. The students’ leaders discharge their duties under their umbrella body called Islamic University Course Coordinators Association (IUCCA)
