An International organisation called Global Human Salvage Organisation yesterday trained students of the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU)- Main campus on leadership skills.
The organisation collaborated with IUIU to hold the training which also benefited the newly elected and appointed Guild Officials that will form 2020-2021 Islamic University Students Union (IUSU) Government in Mbale Municipility.
Director of Learning and Development Department of the organization, Dr Mahmoud Zayed who was the Instructor during the training, challenged the students that a person can lead without any authority but it just take his potential to influence people.
Zayed who is also a professor of Sales and Marketing at Swiss School of Management (SSM) and Arab Academy of Sciences and Technology (AAST) in Egypt said the new students’ representatives are supposed to be leaders not bosses if they want to serve the students community well.
“Leaders use good words when talking to the people below while bosses use commanding words. Leaders have the capability to make the work done by including themselves while bosses exclude themselves because they regard themselves as superiors. You need to be leaders not bosses,” he said.
The University Coordinator Dr Salaiti Kabali told the students’ representatives to use the knowledge imparted in them during the training appropriately to benefit the students fraternity.
In his remarks , Guild President elect Yusuf Welunga hailed Global Human Salvage Organisation and IUIU administration for organising the occasion.
Yusuf said the skills gained during the training will help the guild officials to discharge their duties diligently.
“I believe in the guild officials that are in this room. I know that this training has helped us a lot to gain skills and knowledge that will be used to serve the students well. I know that students out there are waiting for us to serve them well and I am sure that this team will be competent,” he said.
The non-profit making organisation is geared to train youths in 13 countries in Africa so that they can be good and productive leaders. In East Africa, the organization operates in Uganda, Kenya and Burundi.
