MBALE: The Department of Mass Communication together with its students will on Mass Com day treat the Islamic University’s students, staff and a few invited guests to a free open to all exhibition going by the theme “Student’s skill enhancement: A joint responsibility.”
According to one of the orgaisers, Juma Kasadha, also a part time journalist and lecturer of
journalism, the exhibition is aimed at establishing a mutual relationship between the University and the community in terms of day-to-day status as some of the works to be exhibited narrate stories, occurrences and lifestyles of these communities.
“The exhibition will aim at portraying society’s need. We have dedicated this second exhibition to demonstrate the problems of the community through works of journalism,” Kasadha explained. He also promised a better exhibition as compared to last year.
Kasadha however called upon other Universities to initiate the same culture reciting quotes like “journalism cannot only be studied in class, you need the skill and this can be achieved only if a student is involved in practical journalism.”
He says this will encourage and promote practical and skilled practice of journalism and promised to organise an open exhibition where they’ll host various institutions and individual exhibitors.
The first edition of the exhibition was held 23rd April 2015 under the theme; “Celebrating contemporary photography and improving on the skills of students in journalism works”.
The works to be exhibited In this years edition will cover fields of photography, television production, publication and radio production.
