Islamic University in Uganda has been named the best private university in Uganda in 2019 by People of the Republic of Uganda at the 7th Visionaries of Uganda Awards held at Kampala Serena Hotel in Kampala.
IUIU Vice Rector in charge of Academic Affairs Prof Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, IUIU Academic Registrar Dr Halima Wakabi Akbar and IUIU Females’ Campus Director Dr Madina Nabukera received the award from Uganda Vice President His Excellency Edward Kiwanuka Sekandi who was the Guest of Honour.
Visionaries of Uganda Awards was launched in 2013 by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni with a major aim of recognising organisations and individuals who are contributing towards the realisation of Uganda Vision 2040 and hence the socio-economic transformation of Uganda into a middle-income economy.
Uganda has over 8 accredited public universities and over 30 accredited private universities.
Private universities in Uganda include Uganda Christian University , Kampala International University , Bishop Stuart University and Uganda Martyrs University among others.
Among other public universities include Makerere University which is fifth best in Africa, Kyambogo University, Kabale University and Mbarara University of Science and Technology.
