The new Rector of the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) Professor Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda says he is committed to uplift the university to greater heights.
Professor Gyagenda made the remarks during Eid-Fitr prayers held on Thursday, 14th May, 2021 at IUIU Main Campus.
Professor Gyagenda who took over the University’s leadership in January, 2021, vows to work hand in hand with Vice Rector (Finance and Administration) Professor Abdul Mpaata and Vice Rector (Academic Affairs) Dr Jamil Serwanga to make the university become a complete international university.
“I am committed to uplifting IUIU to greater heights. With the team of Professor Mpaata and Dr Serwanga, in few years’ time, IUIU will be a complete international university,” he said.
He asked Muslims across the globe to use the Eid-Fitr prayer to ask God to put an end on COVID-19 pandemic that has disrupted the world economy and love one another by embracing the culture of sharing.
“Share the little you have with those who don’t so that you can put a smile on their faces on this special day,” Professor Gyagenda said.
The IUIU Rector hailed the academic and non-academic staff of the University for their understanding during COVID-19 period despite pay cut.
Professor Gyagenda also commended the Government of Uganda for supporting IUIU since its inception in 1988.
“I want to commend Government of Uganda led by His Excellency Yoweri Museveni for supporting Islamic University in Uganda since 1988,” he said.
Eid-al-Fitr is the first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal. It marks the end of Ramadan, which is a month of fasting and prayer. On the day, Muslims attend communal prayers, listen to a khutba (sermon) and give zakat al-fitr (charity in the form of food) during Eid al-Fitr.
