MBALE: Tension is high at the East Africa’s largest Islamic higher Institution of Learning , Islamic University in Uganda ( IUIU) as over 60 students are expected to be expelled at the end of this academic year 2014-2015 or to be given dead years depending on gravity for dancing the traditional Bagisu dance commonly known as “Kadodi” .
All this started during the just concluded Guild elections where Mr Nandala Ismail merged the winner.
Immediately after Ismail was announced the winner his supporters brought in Drums and other musical instrumentals and they started dancing “Kadodi” which is against the University rules and regulations as the Student’s Rules amended in 2007 states in Part XI on Social Functions article 21.(a) No dance may be organised by any student s body on or off campus, under the umbrella of any organ of the University. During the “kadodi” dance there was also interaction between Male and Females in a manner not Islamic ally acceptable which is termed as Fueling at IUIU and is also against the rules.
Two disciplinary committees sat and all the suspects was required to write 100 apology letters and strictly hand written which they did including the Guild President himself whom they suspect to have started the “kadodi”. According to one of the old students who requested not to mentioned his names for the safety of his Vacancy , “ at the moment you accept to write an apology to the IUIU disciplinary committee , it means you have accepted your case and that students after apologies have been expelled or given dead years in the last years”. He said .
The next disciplinary committee is on Tuesday to determine their fate.
