The Rector of Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) Professor Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda has asked students of the institution not to limit themselves when searching for knowledge.

Professor Gyagenda made the remarks yesterday when addressing the students on USA politics under the theme ” Understanding USA Politics and the Trump Phenomenon, ” ahead of today’s power transition from Donald J Trump to Joe R Biden Junior.

In his address, Professor Gyagenda said that the students of Islamic University must not only focus on their programs of study at the University but also exploring other fields.

“It is not that because you are studying Human Resource Management, Law , Statistics , Computer Science or Education then you are not supposed to study other areas. As students you must familiarize yourselves with other fields such as politics and economics to understand the world better,”

“We need you to leave IUIU premises as complete intellectuals with vast knowledge in several areas. You need to read, read and read. You need to read widely to become complete intellectuals,” Professor Gyagenda said.

On USA politics, the IUIU Rector said it is important to understand the political ground of the country since it is number one on earth.

Professor Gyagenda who has stayed in Atlanta, Georgia state, USA for 28 years said USA is a democratic country and it is advanced in all aspects enabling it to be a paragon in economic, political and social spheres.

“I am not addressing you as your Rector but as a long time resident of the United States of America. That country is rich in everything and as tomorrow (today) power to govern that great country is leaving Trump going to Biden, it is important for you as students to understand the whole process,”

“USA has several political parties but most Americans are either Democrats or Republicans. USA has two major parties namely Democratic and Republican and these two parties are the only parties that produce President of the United States because they have millions of followers,” he said.

Professor Gyagenda said the change of leadership in USA has both benefits and disadvantages on the world politics and economy but he was quick to say that to him it is important that Mr Donald J Trump has left the White House after only serving one term.

Professor Gyagenda said Americans know the characteristics of Trump such as calling others with bad names and he gave an example as how he was calling Joe R Biden Junior as sleepy ‘Joe,’ during campaigns.

In his remarks , Guild President of Islamic University in Uganda ,Yusuf Welunga seconded the Rector by urging the students to search for knowledge during their stay at the Islamic University and even after leaving the institution.
