The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) has contracted Symbion Uganda Limited (Ltd) to design a Faculty of Engineering and Technology at IUIU Main Campus in Mbale city.
Symbion Uganda Limited will also make a design of a new 500-bed males hostel and complete the design of a new library at the Main Campus. The company has also been entrusted to supervise the construction of other mega projects.
Speaking after the signing the contract, IUIU Rector Professor Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda said the project has been on the book for years.
“The concept started in 2013 , so we are really excited that finally the designing of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology is going to start and probably before the end of the year, the construction will start,” the Rector said.
Professor Gyagenda said the 8th Faculty of the Islamic University in Uganda will add value to the country, continent and the world at large.
“This is the age of Science, Technology and Innovation, so the Faculty of Engineering and Technology is going to help us a lot to be part of the story of Science, Technology and Innovation,” Professor Gyagenda said.
The Rector reiterated that the new Faculty will help the university to serve competently as the centre of Science Technology, and Innovation of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Africa.
“The Faculty of Engineering and Technology has come when IUIU has been selected to be the centre of Science, Technology and Innovation of the Muslims in Africa,” Professor Gyagenda said.
The projects are financed by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) .
