Ssenyonga Julius, a fourth year student pursuing a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) at the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) Kampala Campus is the new President Uganda Law Students Association after defeating Makerere University’s Mpindi Percy Jackson in an election held yesterday at Cavendish University Kamwokya.
Out of the total 13 votes from Law Students Societies (LSS) presidents eligible to vote, Ssenyonga Julius managed to gather 9.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Campus Bee, Ssenyonga who is the current President of IUIU Kampala Campus Law Students Society said the secret behind his victory is his hard working spirit.
“I have worked hard to unite all Schools of Law in Uganda even before by organising Inter- University moots held at IUIU Kampala Campus recently, Inter- University sports galla held at IUIU Females’ Campus Kabojja where all universities participated,” he told Campus Bee.
Ssenyonga says during his time in office he needs to hold several Inter- University rule of law symposiums, Inter- University sports gallas, Inter-University mental health clinics, Inter-University moot competitions, Inter-University human rights seminars, Inter-University oral legal competitions, Inter- University mentorship series and championing students voices towards LDC academic fracus.
During the law week at IUIU Kampala Campus from 11th-14th January, 2022, the new Uganda Law Students Association President in his capacity as IUIU Kampala Campus Law Society President organized Rule of Law Symposium, Inter-University/Inter-Class Law Oral Competition, Human Rights Day and Inter-University/Inter-Class Law Moot Competitions.
Recently, Ssenyonga was also elected as the Coordinator of Federation of Law Students in Africa. His main role at the federation is to pursue or represent the affairs of Uganda students at a continental level.
Some of the law schools in Uganda include IUIU School of Law, Makerere University School of Law, Uganda Christian University School of Law, Kampala International University School of Law, Gulu University School of Law, Cavendish University School of Law and Bishop Stuart University School of Law.
