IUIU Students Challenged to Champion Human Rights

A human rights expert has urged the students of the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) to champion human rights.

The expert, Dr. Livingstone Ssewanyana who is the United Nations (UN) Independent Expert of Promotion of a Democratic and Equitable International Order made the remarks last week while addressing the students marking IUIU Human Rights Day under the theme ” the role played by citizens in promotion and protection of fundamental human rights and freedoms” at IUIU Kampala Campus..

Dr Ssewanyana who is also the Executive Director of Foundation for Human Rights Initiative encouraged the students to always promote and defend human rights.

“It is your noble duty to defend human rights and you will never regret,” Dr Ssewanyana who was one of the guest speakers stressed.

Other speakers at the event included Honorable Mutembuli Yusuf, the Deputy Chairman Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, Sarah Bireete, the Executive Director Center for Constitutional Governance and Charles Mwanguhya, the Host of NBS frontline show.

The event was organized by IUIU Human Rights Association Kampala Campus together with IUIU Law Society Kampala Campus.
