The students of the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) have been trained on the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) during a public lecture organized by the University’s Faculty of Law.
Speaking during the function today at IUIU Main Campus in Mbale City , Guest Speaker at the public lecture Ms. Boko Jane Patricia who is an official from the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRS) -Uganda has urged the students to understand the International Humanitarian Law.
“ICRS is a custodian of IHL and it is our mandate to let people understand more about the IHL,” Ms. Patricia said.
The ICRS -Uganda official urged the students to know the difference between international armed conflict and non- international armed conflict.
In his remarks, the Vice Rector (Academic Affairs) of the Islamic University in Uganda, Dr Serwanga requested @ICRCUganda to continue engaging IUIU students on laws governing armed conflicts (IHL).
The International Humanitarian Law Public Lecture was held under the theme ” Understanding International Law and Its Application.”
International humanitarian law is a set of rules which seek, for humanitarian reasons, to limit the effects of armed conflict. It protects persons who are not or are no longer participating in the hostilities and restricts the means and methods of warfare.
The event was patronized by over 200 law students of the Islamic University in Uganda Main Campus.
