The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) has advised the staff and students to re-embrace a culture of observing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in the wake of the new COVID-19 variant called Omicron.
The University’s Assistant Secretary Mr Kinsambwe Rashid says the IUIU community must always carry a praying mat and put on a face mask when going for prayers in the main mosque in Mbale City.
“Let’s cooperate to continue praying normally. Everyone must come in the mosque with a mat. You need also to put a facemask and observe social distancing in the mosque if we need to win the fight against the COVID-19,” Kinsambwe said.
Kinsambwe reiterated the significance of following other SOPs such as washing hands frequently using soap and he urged the students and staff to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
The assistant University Secretary said that IUIU is ready to continue working hand in hand to win the fight against the pandemic.
Seconding Mr Kinsambwe’s remarks, the Public Relations Officer of the Islamic University, Miss Kantono Rehema urged students to be vigilant.
“Many people in Mbale and the surrounding districts are battling with flu and cough, presenting COVID-19 symptoms. The situation in the country is alarming, as covid cases are going up again. Please keep safe, wear your mask and ask those around you to do the same.
The Islamic University in Uganda has produced a number of innovations such as automatic washing hands machine and sanitizer to help the Government in the fight against the pandemic. The University distributed some of the innovations and placed some in all it’s campuses namely Main Campus in Mbale City, Kampala Campus in Kampala, Females Campus’ in Wakiso and Arua Campus in Arua city. The institution has not registered any case of COVID-19 so far.
