The Guild Election process has gained momentum at the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) Main Campus in Mbale as students are set to elect the Electoral Commission (EC) Chairman to manage the 2022/2023 elections.
Today, the students are set to nominate the aspirants for the post of the Electoral Commission ahead of elections on Saturday, 23rd April, 2022.
According to a snap survey that Campus Bee conducted ,the students are ready to vote for their guild leaders unlike last guild elections where leaders were declared without elections.
“This time, I think the elections will be different. Students will be allowed to vote unlike last academic year when guild leaders were declared without elections,” one student who didn’t want to be disclosed said.
The students say the elections will allow them vote for people they need.
“Elections are good because they allow us (students) to exercise our write to vote. I am looking forward to exercise this right starting with EC Chairperson and Guild leaders,” another student added.
Among the students showing interest in the post of Electoral Commission Chairperson include Mutasa Godfrey who is a fourth year student pursuing a Bachelor of Laws (LLB).
Mutasa told Campus Bee that if given a mandate, he will make sure to organize free and fair elections. The university will have guild elections on Saturday 14th May, 2022.
