The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) are the winners of the Inter-University Eastern Region Youth Debate Competition organized by the Youth Go-Green with the funding from Ministry of Water and Environment.
The Islamic University in Uganda defeated Uganda Christian University (UCU) – Mbale, Makerere University Jinja Campus , Busitema University, Kumi University and National Teachers’ College Kaliro during a competition held today in Mbale city.
Speaking after the declaration of the results, the Public Relations Officer of IUIU Ms. Rehema Kantono congratulated the debating team for the victory.
Ms. Kantono who was the guest of honor urged the students to be optimistic ahead of the national competition if they need to be victorious.
In his remarks, Maximo Twinomuhangi who is the Team Leader of Kyoga Water Management Zone in the Ministry of Water and Environment urged the IUIU team to bring the trophy to the Eastern Region.
Twinomuhangi who represented the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Water and Environment urged the students to read widely and explore knowledge ahead of the national competition in Kampala.
The IUIU team was represented by Ivan Magomu and Kiyuba Jennah. The debate had two rounds and followed the British Parliament style.
The debate was held under the theme “Water Conservation: a Necessity of the Present to Secure the Future.”
