Makerere University is set to expand its wings to Jinja City where a fully-fledged campus of the institution will be set up.
The development comes after the city leaders, led by Jinja City mayor Peter Kasolo, accepted a proposal from the University on the matter. The campus will be set up at Budondo sub-county.
Commenting on the development, Kasolo told a native publication that: “Makerere University came up with a formal request to the City Council because previously, they had made a request to the Division yet the issue of land is being handled by the city. I advise them to write to me so that I present it to the executive so that it sits to make a minute for approval.”
The provisional campus in Jinja City, which was situated in a rented facility on Bell Avenue, accommodates about 700 students on Graduate Programs, undergraduate programmes and Certificate/Diploma Programs.
The development is expected to boost the social and economic landscape in Jinja City and also help students from the locality to access quality higher education.
