Johnson and Johnson launched the Champions of Science Africa Innovation Challenge on 8th November 2018. This competition lays a foundation for innovators and start-ups to be eligible to receive up to US$50,000 in funding and mentorship can help bring their concepts to market.
The second innovation challenge focuses on identifying scalable and sustainable solutions to six major health and environment problems for Africa’s population.
Specifically, the challenge focuses on six categories; Botanical solutions, Packaging innovations, Mental health, Health worker support, Digital health tools and Essential surgical care.
“The growing number of innovation hubs throughout Africa is sparkling a new generation of entrepreneurs who are innovating and finding new solutions for issues facing their communities, ” said Josh Gain, Chief Technology Officer, Johnson and Johnson consumer Inc.
Challenge submissions may originate from anywhere in Africa, and from more than one or more individuals, teams or companies. Idea submissions must address at least one of the six challenge categories, be innovative and creative, be scalable and outline how the award would help the applicant(s) reach a critical milestone within the timeframe of a single year and provides a full commercial plan.
