Supporters of Juma Wasswa Balunywa received disappointing news as he was denied the Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) party card for the upcoming Guild President Election at Makerere University Business School (MUBS).
Considered a top contender for the MUBS Guild President race, Juma faced this setback during the UYD vetting exercise, as announced by the party.
In an official statement from UYD, it was revealed that after thorough consideration, Benedict Luswata has been selected as the party’s flagbearer for the 2024-2025 Guild Election.
Despite this setback, Juma Wasswa Balunywa has made the decision to continue his candidacy as an independent candidate in the upcoming election.
Juma gained significant popularity in January, especially on social media, largely due to the efforts of his campaigning team, led by Enricho Kawooya, who created catchy campaign songs chanting his name.
Many believed he was unmatched when his name appeared on the MUBS Guild President ballot paper, predicting a landslide victory for him.
The denial of the UYD party card marks a significant turn of events in what was once seen as a promising electoral journey for Juma Wasswa Balunywa.
Now, as an independent candidate, he faces new challenges and uncertainties in his pursuit of the Guild Presidency at MUBS.
Stay tuned for further updates as the election approaches.
