Tensions have reached a boiling point at Makerere University Business School (MUBS) as the institution finds itself embroiled in a controversy surrounding the arrest of Juma Wasswa Balunywa, just days after his expulsion from the Guild Presidential race.

For the first time in recent memory, the halls of MUBS were lined with a heavy presence of police and military personnel, a sight that raised eyebrows and deepened concerns among students and faculty alike. As a government institution under the Ministry of Education and Sports, questions abound as to why Juma Wasswa Balunywa was subjected to physical assault and subsequently arrested.

In a heartfelt plea for answers, his sister, Maya Balunywa, directed her queries to Prof. Muhwezi, the Acting Principal of MUBS. “We would like some answers as to why Juma Wasswa Balunywa was beaten and arrested? Prof. Muhwezi, we humbly request you to explain to us!” Maya Balunywa’s words echoed the sentiments of many within the MUBS community who are seeking clarity amidst the unfolding events.

The arrest of Juma Wasswa Balunywa comes on the heels of his expulsion from the MUBS Guild Presidential race, a decision that has sparked widespread controversy and debate. The Electoral Commission at MUBS cited the reason for his removal as being the discovery of retakes during his academic tenure, a violation of the guild constitution’s eligibility requirements.

Juma Wasswa Balunywa, however, has not remained silent in the face of these challenges. In a statement to the press, he expressed shock and disbelief at the turn of events. “I stand here today, not as a victim of circumstance, but as a fighter for justice and fairness,” he declared.

Speaking out against what he perceives as an unjust decision by the MUBS Electoral Commission, Juma Wasswa Balunywa reiterated his commitment to serving the student body and advocating for their rights. “I have always stood for transparency and integrity, and I will not back down in the face of adversity,” he asserted.
